# What You'll Need:

→ Bread & Dairy

01 - 4 slices sourdough or country white bread
02 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
03 - 4 slices cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese

→ Meats

04 - 4 slices thick-cut bacon

→ Vegetables

05 - 1 ripe avocado, sliced
06 - 1 medium tomato, sliced
07 - 2 leaves romaine or butter lettuce

→ Condiments & Seasoning

08 - Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

# How to Make It:

01 - Cook bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, approximately 5-7 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
02 - Lightly spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
03 - Place two bread slices buttered side down on a work surface. Layer each with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado slices. Season avocado and tomato with salt and pepper. Top with remaining cheese slices and bread slices, buttered side up.
04 - Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place assembled sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown with melted cheese, approximately 3-4 minutes per side, gently pressing with a spatula.
05 - Remove sandwiches from skillet and let cool 1-2 minutes. Slice diagonally in half and serve immediately.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It takes barely 20 minutes but tastes like you spent an hour fussing over it.
  • Every bite has crunch, creaminess, and that perfect salty-savory balance that makes you close your eyes and smile.
  • You probably already have most of these ingredients sitting in your kitchen right now.
02 -
  • If your heat is too high, the bread will burn before the cheese melts, so keep it on medium-low and be patient.
  • Pat your tomato slices dry or the sandwich will get soggy and fall apart when you try to eat it.
  • Use softened butter, not melted, or it will soak into the bread instead of crisping the outside.
03 -
  • Press the sandwich gently with your spatula while it cooks to help the cheese melt faster and bind everything together.
  • If you're making two sandwiches at once, use a large griddle or two skillets so they both stay hot and crispy.
  • Season your avocado and tomato right before assembling, not earlier, or the salt will draw out moisture and make things watery.
